How To Make Perfect Mango lassi

Mango lassi chilled drink

Mmm….a refreshing popular Indian yogurt based drink, mango lassi. Super delicious especially when you are having an Indian meal or even on a hot day. The perfect mango lassi, this drink never disappoints. Cool and tasty with the strong mango flavor. Sweet and milky, it really is a delight and I love this drink to bits lol.

My memories for mango lassi go back to my childhood when dad would make mango lassi in a flash and fill up a whole jug full and leave it to chill in the refrigerator and we would drink it throughout the hot summer day. Mmm…I could still taste it in my mouth. Dads mango lassi was and still is the best and perfect mango lassi.

Like many milk shakes or yogurt based drinks, mango lassi can be made very easily with just a few ingredients. It’s amazing how you could get so much taste from a simple drink. I could have a couple of glass fulls if there was enough left for me lol.

Funny thing about mango lassi is I didn’t know dad would sometimes use mango pulp that is sold in cans. I always thought you had to use fresh mangoes and that’s how I was making it. No wonder I couldn’t get that same taste as the one dad made. I just simply thought I could whiz this up using fresh mangoes and it will taste great. Mind you mango lassi does taste great with fresh mango’s especially if they are nice and ripe sweet mangoes. Which are hard to find where I am. But if you can’t find super sweet mangoes and you really want to get that extraordinary taste of the real mango lassi then use the store bought stuff which is of course mango pulp sold in cans. As soon as you open that can of mango pulp up you can already start to smell that lassi… it’s super strong, beautiful flavor, you could really smell that sweetness from the mangoes.

Ingredients you need to make the perfect mango lassi

Mango lassi ingredients

Mango pulp you can find this in Indian groceries sold in cans. There are a couple of different brands for mango pulp and they are all pretty good. You don’t need to use the whole can of course so you can transfer the pulp from the can to a airtight container and refrigerate and use within 3-4 days.

Natural pain yogurt, one of the main ingredients used in mango lassi. Hence the name lassi, yogurt based drink. Thickens and adds to the flavor of the drink.

Sugar, you will also need to add some sugar to sweeten the lassi. Mango lassi is always sweet so a little sugar will help to sweeten the drink up.

Milk, whole milk to get the lassi to the right consistency. More or less milk depending on how thicker or thinner you want the mango lassi to be.

Ice cubes, if you’re planning to have the drink right away then add in some ice cubes. This will chill your lassi up and be ready to drink.

Add in all the ingredients into a blender, I like to use my Ninja blender and blitz for a minute.
