You will love this recipe. It’s super easy and super tasty. Full of flavor, a absolute delicious beef dish which you can whiz up in no time. When you cook a beef stew or a beef curry like a big batch and sometimes you might just have that extra few pieces of beef left right at the bottom of your pot then here is the perfect recipe to finish up.
The perfect taste of single strands of beef stir fried in lots of onions, cooked down nice and gently just so all the beef strands and onions can get a even coating of a slight crisp but still tender bite.
I remember having this dish even when I was a child. I would prefer this over other beef dishes that were cooked. It was like a once in a while dish mum would make. Of course back then I didn’t have a clue how she made it. The days of comfort being a child just eating away and enjoying everyday as it came.
Some of you will also probably remember having this dish and some may wonder what’s so special about a simple dish. Well of course you have to try it out to see what you have been missing out on! I know this pulled beef, jura mangsho is also cooked from scratch but some of us need easy ways to cook and this of course is a great way to enjoy this dish.
More about the dish itself and how it is made
First of all like I earlier mentioned when you have some beef left over from a curry or a stew and probably no one wants to have anymore of it then just keep it aside and you can use this up for a quick dish to go with a plate of warm steamed rice, that’s the perfect combo really or even roti’s if you prefer.
So how much left over beef do you need?
Really it doesn’t matter, even if you can get 1 cup of the beef then that will be plenty. You can use food gloves and pull the beef up by hand or use two forks to help pull the beef apart. Basically pulling the pieces of beef up until almost shred like. It doesn’t have to be perfect you can even keep some slightly whole if you like. Once the beef has been pulled apart keep aside.
Cooking process
I like to use a large onion, cut into medium slices. It’s nice to have some of that onion still visible once cooked. Remember it’s a stir fry type of dish, so you don’t want your onions sliced too thinly as they will probably disintegrate during the cooking process.
Chop some fresh cilantro up to garnish and if you don’t mind some heat then a few green chilies sliced lengthwise will add to the extra flavor.
Heat 2-3 tablespoons of oil in a pan and add in the onions. Cook the onions just for a minute or two and then add in the shredded beef. Give the onions and beef a good stir, add some salt to taste (remember the beef will most probably have some salt in it already) keeping the flame on a medium heat. No need to cover the pan you can just keep the pan uncovered and stir from time to time. You want to cook this for 8-10 minutes, stirring in between making sure that nothing is sticking to the bottom of the pan but try to get some charring on the meat and onions. This will usually happen during the length of the cooking process and that’s where all the yummy flavors are.
Add in the green chilies and cilantro, stir one more time before you take it off the heat. Serve and enjoy with a plate of steamed white rice. It’s absolutely mouth watering…Mmm
Pulled Beef, Jura Mangsho Recipe

Ingredients
2-3 tablespoons of cooking oil
1 cup leftover beef from curry or stew
1 large onion, medium sliced
Salt to taste
2-3 green chilies cut lengthwise
Handful of fresh chopped cilantro
Directions
- Break the beef pieces up using a fork, pulling the pieces of beef up until almost shred like
- Heat 2-3 tablespoons of oil in a pan and add in the onions
- Cook the onions just for a minute or two and then add in the pulled beef
- Give the onions and beef a good stir add some salt to taste keeping the flame on a medium heat
- Keep the pan uncovered and stir from time to time. You want cook this for 8-10 minutes, stirring in between making sure that nothing is sticking to the bottom of the pan
- Try to get some charring on the meat and onions. This will usually happen during the length of the cooking process
- Add in the green chilies and cilantro, stir one more time before you take it off the heat
- Enjoy with a plate of white steamed rice.
